Wes and all, This sounds like a great plan. Also, I would like to introduce
a resolution to boost metro transit based on this letter at the April
meeting of the 36th District Democrats. If I draft a template, would y’all
be willing to review it and we can use it for other LDs? Thanks!

Love the Optimism and Brewlab suggestions! they both check a couple of key
boxes - well served by transit, centrally located, have outdoor seating for
folks, have spacious floorplans that accommodate groups, 99% sure both are
wheelchair accessible. I think Optimism has at least one or two
non-alcoholic options for folks...not sure about Brewlab but I'll try to
get over later this week to check. Optimism is open 7 days/week, Brewlab is
open Wed - Sun. Optimism has food trucks (and lets you bring your own food)
and Brewlab has pizza.

Doug suggested that each of the orgs bring a speaker. There are some merits
to that approach - it'll probably be easier to get a few friendlies to
speak for a few minutes than to recruit one outside "bigger" speaker,
speakers could be spaced throughout the event so that everyone gets to hear
a speaker even if they only come for part of the event, it's always nice to
hear from different voices instead of just one, and will help everyone get
at least one guaranteed introduction to an org they don't currently belong
to.
*Action: Does this seem like the right approach to you? Or do you think we
should try to recruit an outside speaker? Maybe you have a different idea?

Also, I agree with Doug. For our first joint happy hour, it makes sense to
have reps from each of our orgs speak. In terms of location, Optimism does
have incredible capacity. We could also look into Red Hook Brew Lab if we
wanted to do something with outdoor options (I know Ballard and Fremont
have a TON of breweries with outdoor seating - but those two neighborhoods
can be a bit difficult to get to transit-wise).

Discussion at top of call:
- There is common interest between the Urbanist, Seattle Subway, 36th
Dems, and TRU forming a coalition to advocate for restoration/expansion of
bus service hours.
- Trust with voters and campaigns has been broken - we've passed levies
for service hours that can't be fulfilled due to a lack of bus drivers,
we've seen Seattle City Council move funding out of transit and into bridge
maintenance.
- We want to amplify the asks that the ATU have made around improving
bus driver recruitment (the path to a CDL is time-consuming and expensive)
and retention (more hours, better hours, safety, childcare, etc).
To build the coalition, we agreed it would be good to start with a meetup,
and then follow up down the line with calls to action and a rally.
- Would be open invite, but particularly targeted at building engagement
among existing members of our orgs
- Doug said that Pike Place Bar has historically been a good site for
meetups, but it could be challenging if lots of people come.
- Feb/March timeframe
- We'd like a speaker if possible
- Doug will be checking in with Seatlte Subway on their engagement in
this process
- Doug and Sarah will be leading the effort, with help from me
- Saunatina requested that Sarah and Doug email her to be added to TRU's
BATS (Bus and Transit Service) workgroup mailing list, and encouraged them
to attend our next BATS meeting (4th Mondays, monthly).
