A couple of summers ago, I organized a letter (attached) to SDOT and Seattle leadership supporting the (then) recently installed northbound bus lane on Rainier Ave between Columbia City and S Walden St. Transit Riders Union endorsed the letter, as well as Rep. Tomiko Santos. The bus lane has been controversial and had some issues with compliance, which has caused safety issues and lots of crashes. However on net I believe, and SDOT’s own data shows, that the 7 is faster and more reliable, and car speeds are closer to the speed limit. Overall it is much more pleasant to walk along the section with bus lanes, too.</div><div><br></div><div>Phase 2 of this bus lane project went out to bid today: <a href="https://www.seattle.gov/transportation/projects-and-programs/programs/transit-program/rainier-ave-s-bus-only-lane" target="_blank">https://www.seattle.gov/transportation/projects-and-programs/programs/transit-program/rainier-ave-s-bus-only-lane</a>. This will extend the lane to nearly Judkins Park Station/I-90 and install a new crossing signal at Grand.</div><div><br></div><div>Unfortunately, I have received news from a friend at SDOT that this project is not a done deal. I fully expect shenanigans and attempts to halt this project from moving forward. I was wondering if you’d be interested in collaborating on a campaign to signal strong support for the project similar to what’s been done for Route 40 in Fremont? Let me know what you think.</div><div><br></div><div>Thank you for all you do!</div><div><br></div><div>Braeden</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div></div></div></div></blockquote></div></div><div><div><blockquote type="cite"><div><div dir="auto"><div></div><div><br></div><div><br></div></div></div></blockquote></div><br></div>_______________________________________________<br>Transit mailing list<br><a href="mailto:Transit@transitriders.org" target="_blank">Transit@transitriders.org</a><br><a href="http://lists.transitriders.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/transit" rel="noreferrer" target="_blank">http://lists.transitriders.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/transit</a></blockquote></div></div></blockquote></div><br></body></html>
