[Transit] Route 27 issue

Hey All,
Sam, TRU member and former bus driver and current Metro planner, texted me today with an idea I wanted to pass along:
"If you’re looking for something wonky but significant that TRU could make a stink about, here’s one of my Metro pet peeves:
You know how buses skip every other stop on 3rd Ave? Metro usually does a good job of grouping the routes together so someone waiting for multiple routes to the same area can catch whichever comes first (e.g., buses to West Seattle all serve same stops). But a glaring exception to this is Route 27 which serves the heart of the CD via Yesler. All other CD-bound buses stop together on southbound 3rd, except the 27. This is because some trips on the route 33 from magnolia turn into the 27 downtown, but other 33 trips turn into the 124 to Tukwila, so the 27 stops where the 124 stops instead.
Long story short, CD residents have shittier bus options to accommodate Magnolia residents.
I think the Seattle transit blog wrote about this years ago.
Basically fixing it would require either
(A) the 33 stopping at different stops downtown on different trips depending on which route it turns into, which would be inconsistent and confusing for riders (and drivers)
Or
(B) the 33 decouples from either the 27 or 124, which would be challenging for Metro service planners, but they should figure it out.”
I’m not suggesting we need to do something about this necessarily, but I wanted to share in case there’s interest!
Best,
Katie
